Prettier, lighter, simpler, naturally aspirated, smaller, etc.
But you could also get two g35'es, one coupe and one sedan.
Or an is300 with a stick and an sc400...
I guess my point is japanese cars from the late 90s and early 2000s were good. Really good. And its hard to justify newer cars over just finding an immaculate one of these gems for half the price thatll still run forever.

I couldn’t be happier with my TSX.

I saw an early Jeep Liberty with those TL-S wheels a couple weeks back. Even the hatch-mounted spare. It actually looked pretty good for a Liberty.

I am not really a Honda or Acura guy....but the third-gen TL with a stick is THE Acura I would definitely buy....I think, in terms of looks, they have held up incredibly well!

Theyre so hard to find (tl-s manuals)

I had a dream recently where I purchased a TL Type-S.
Maybe that means something.

Even I would drive one of these and I can’t stand Hondas.

That era of TL was so beautiful; Ford copied it, called it the Fusion, and sold a ton of them. Meanwhile Acura turned it into a Transformer-faced mess.

They are really not expensive, maybe you should...

Great gen of acuras, I love them all

Till today I never noticed how big the acura badges are now until I was stuck behind an ILX in traffic a few hours ago.

Mine is the newer TSX, with the beak, but it’s still a really good car. And it has a stick.

Thats a mild beak compared to the TL of that gen. Does that gen have a v6 option?
![]() 07/18/2017 at 23:06 |

It does, but you could only get it with the automatic. Same with the wagon.

agree - that gen of the TL is an excellent, great looking car. My old boss had a blue one for a while. They are a little smaller inside than I expected but still comfortable for taller folk if you skip the sunroof.

They seem to hold their value well here in my area as they are fairly uncommon. Our neighbours have a nice one in white though!

I think your rose-tinted glasses need cleaned. Honda didn’t know how to build an automatic transmission until the mid-2000s, Toyota killed everything good they sold in the mid-90s and made you buy a Lexus to get something fun, and everything else was an also-ran except for the Miata.

Honda A/t’s were trash in the early 2000s and im not really much of a honda guy but the TL of this generation is a great car.
I dont care if toyota didnt have cool products, a lexus is still a toyota and isnt it expected that the luxury marquee has the better cars? SC, GS, IS, and LX (landcruiser whatever) were all exceptional even well into the 2000s when they hadnt been refreshed in forever.
The g35 was great for its time, and almost 10 years later infiniti could still get sales off essentially that same car.
Mitsubishi was still making a US montero, the best evo gen, 3000gt(?)
Mazda had the miata like you said but also the millennia which was way ahead of its time.
Subaru was still inspiring and just developing the engines they would put into service until now
And thats only mentioning cool cars. Every single other car from the japanese makes (minus honda with bad a/t) was dead reliable compared to american cars at the time, and good compared to germans, maybe barring the last of the great mercedes benzes.
Wouldnt call it rose tinted glasses. They were mostly genuinely great cars.

I suppose this depends on your definition of what a great car can be. In my opinion an econobox isn’t a great car, it’s a compromise. I think my E46 is a great car, but if you had to replace the expansion tank and sunroof shade more than once or twice you would think it’s awful.

Mmmmm, G35. Nothing wrong with it that an upholstery shop can’t fix.
Drives much better than BMW, too.
